There is less than 300 feet remaining for the Emerald Mole! This will complete the second tunnel through Beacon Hill.

Yes, you are correct…we approaching exciting times! According to the latest projections, hole-thru could be as early as Friday, February 29, 2008! Of course, this is only an estimate, and we won’t know until possibly the day before.
Keep an eye out on our website, as I’m sure there will be an announcement. Also, I have attached a link to a graphic that shows approximately where the tunnel boring machine is…about 300 feet to go!

Woohoo!! I’ll bet they’ll finish the whole thing early.
At least according to the revised schedule. I still think this part should have been done first while they were arguing over the University LINK part, and the tunnel costs. but I will not let that overshadow the accomplishment of finally getting it done. Controversy and Criticism can be a good thing, and perhaps some in our local media ignoring construction progress because it is contrary to their opinion of the project, helped take some pressure off of the construction crews.
Now something running by early next, year I can live with, but I do not want it pushed up to where it compromises construction safety, as it will be self-defeating if we have another accident.
Plus, an opening ceremony will make the local media notice it has been completed.
Yeah there is going to be a huge media day when it happens. They have been encountering some minor water problems but other than that, they are only a week off schedule.
