Yuck. Obviously what we need are more buses! Ben’s problem would go away tomorrow if there were 5 buses stuck underneath the 405 right now instead of one.
This is obviously a sarcastic comment in favor of light rail. But building a dedicated bus right-of-way thru this corridor (ala bus rapid transit) would be better than light rail in the sense that *all* transit routes would be able to use it, not just the single route served by light rail.
Heh, yeah it is. Y’know, I could come back with a counter-argument about total operating costs and peak capacity, but honestly, I what’s the point? The war’s over, and I’m done arguing. We’re getting more buses, more choo-choo trains, more light rail…
I’m also done making sarcastic comments (maybe… no promises there). I just had to get that one out of my system.
Paul Allen might be rich beyond what my small brain can grasp, but there is no reason we should sit around and wait (nor expect) for him to solve our problems for us. Nope, if we want our transportation problems solved then we need to solve them ourselves.
That is why the passage of Prop 1 was so historic. After 40 years of fumbling and stumbling following the failure of Forward Thrust in 1968, we finally ended the debate – this region is on the LR path, we have a plan, and we are committed to it.
Now all that is left to debate are questions like, “What can we do better?” “What can we do faster?” And, “What might we want to add to the current plan?”
Bottom line? We really should be focused on helping ST deliver this system faster, cheaper and better than what is currently planned for. That is the best way to improve the 545 sooner rather than later.
You know, my KC Metro Route 8 was pretty late today, too. Like, frikkin 30 minutes from 23rd & Yesler to Walden & Claremont. You heard me right, but you know what would really fix this? More buses. But, like actually. If the 8 came, say, five times as often, I would not have to wait nearly as long. Number one issue? Increase frequency of the 8 South.

There were three - all 545s that bunched up at the onramp at 40th Street.
Not to mention two Connector buses. Actually, yeah, that makes five.
Yeah I had the same thing, it took from 6:45 to 8:35 to take the 242 home. Yikes.

It’d be fine until the buses needed to get off the right of way to their unique destinations. Then they’d just be buses and stuck in traffic, again.
too bad Paul Allen doesn’t have the same passion for trains that he does for planes …
then maybe he would have funded East Link years ago

And look, a diesel truck turnover and 5-car pileup on I-5 this morning, closing the freeway completely. Man I’m glad I live near where I work ;-P
Yeah, my commute took about the normal amount of time, but of course I was very very wet.
4 and 5 are clearly the new Illuminati numbers.
