I reckon you have seen this one:
I’m not sure whether you’ve seen this:
I’ve seen a couple of pretty close between Link trains and both cars and pedestrians during testing the last few months, and I wonder if Sound Transit shouldn’t try a similar campaign for Link in the areas where the train has at-grade crossings. Maybe not with moonwalking bears on Youtube, but “It’s easy to miss what you aren’t looking for…” with a picture of train. What do you think?

Wow, the second video was impressively clever. I didn’t see any of the changes…and I’m occasionally a cyclist, so I can see the point.
Steel wheel on steel rail has the unfortunate technological disadvantage of dramatically slower brake times.
Link engineers are well aware of this and I think the design does a good job of mitigating those concerns – in contrast to street cars – which also run much slower to compensate.
There is some lemonaid in this problem – the downtown tunnel will have both trains and buses. This would be a great place to prototype IVS safety systems, followed asap into HOT lanes and the like. FWIW, joint operation makes a lot of sense in other areas – including Tacoma – and perhaps even I-90.
These videos don’t look that safe to me :) heh
