Thats painful to look at, both as a Coug and a person who wished they never would have torn all that stuff out. “We’ve got the car, we’ll never need it again!”

I was looking at pictures a couple days ago of the interurban rail network that stretched from Tacoma, through Seattle, through Everett, and up to Bellingham and THAT was painful to look at.

For some reason I find the failed early 1970s Forward Thrust thing the hardest to look at.

Yeah, because your blood’s responsible for its doom! :)

Yeah, it’s always nice to remind people that we had BETTER transit service in this area 100 years ago than we do today. *SIGH* And more Transit-Oriented Development when you think about it, too…

Where did that turnaround track come in from? 23rd?

Andrew says:

Must have, right? I wonder about that hill though, seems too steep for a normal streetcar.

Andrew says:

I still wonder how it made it up that hill…

Must have worked pretty good, whatever was used. Queen Anne had help from the Counterbalance.

Now here is a photo of an interesting branch-line on the Seattle and Ranier Valley, the Genessee Branch Line, also called the Genessee Dinky, and something used as an attack at what has been built lately, the Toonerville Trolley! My how the neighborhood has changed. Even the school on the hill is gone, replaced by, a newer school that looks a little like the old Hawthorne and shares the same name, but still is not the same.

Electric vehicles have alot of torque. If done slowly and with a sander at the ready, steep grades are not impossible.
