In 1967 the Federal Transit Administration was born. At the time, it was called the Urban Mass Transit Administration. The same year, a number of mass transit studies were released, from L.A. to Hong Kong to our own plan in Seattle.
It was also 1967 when residents of Vancouver, BC got together to reject a highway through their city. Perhaps, forty two years later, we can get our act together and do the same?

1967 was also the year that the DC Metro was born as an idea. 42 years later, it gets a million riders each day.
I don’t care what people say here. I HATE that you have to go through city streets in Vancouver just to get to Whistler. Gimme a way around or something (a train route to Whistler?). OK…I’m done.
Well, I might point out that folks coming from EAST of Vancouver don’t have to go through streets to get to Whistler. And there IS a train route to Whistler.
OK…fair enough about Hwy 1.
But about that train…I look for that probably once a year as winter approaches. I know you can book a trip via Amtrak to get to Whistler, but it always results in a bus trip from Vancouver to Whistler. Plus there is only 1 train per day from Sea to Van so it’s more likely that your whole trip is by bus. The only train I’ve seen go to Whistler is a tourist train which is spendy and from what I remember, doesn’t operate during the winter. Please let me know I’m wrong!
You don’t have to go through Vancouver to get to Whistler. You cross at the truck crossing in Blaine, take Highway 15 north to Highway 1 and head west. Much faster.
NSBill,
You can take the Whistler Mountaineer in the Sumner months. They started their season today with the Royal Hudson 2860 steam locomotive pulling the train to Whistler. Nice extra treat on an already spectacular route!

Me and my girlfriend will be taking this trip later this Summner for a weekend getaway. Hopefully the Talgo will return on the Seattle – Vancouver BC route by that time but it looks doubtful right now. Yay for Superliners (rolls eyes)
