Zap on Board!
Sound Transit has launched Zap on Board, a pretty well-done flash entertainment site designed to teach kids the basics about Link light rail safety. Link light rail is in near ’round-the-clock testing now and will open for revenue service on July 18th.
Through various flash mini-games and downloadables, Zap on Board gets the point across: pay attention when crossing light rail lines, don’t walk down the tracks, and be alert for quiet light rail trains. And hey, sometimes flash games for kids are fun for us big kids too!
Be sure to spread to friends and family living in the Valley.

Ooh! OOh! I want to be Zap’s Safety Sidekick! Pick Me!
At least you can be the kid pictured in the Correct or Incorrect.
I remember meeting Zap in person. He’s awesome.
I don’t know. Oxygene can fly.
But Zap has the almighty traffic signal on his head.
White outlines around bitmaps on top of vectors? C’mon, anti aliasing is easy!
I think the design looks good. The sticker-like outlines make it look more fun and kid-friendly.
The whole theme is paper cut-outs. I like it. They should let us print our own Link paper sets.
I agree. They already have paper foldups of the vehicles, but other pieces of infrastructure would be super-cool.
ST has folding Link paper vehicles. They’re in a big box in the media supply room along with Link temporary tattoos!
Oops, I missed that L. Need my morning cup of coffee…
That’s alright, I wasn’t aware that there were Link tattoos. Any idea where I could get some?
A downloadable I’d like to see is some high-resolution Link-themed art, such as the stylized trains in opening day and safety brochures.
What bugs me is the “Languages” button has a hiragana ‘o’ (お) but there’s no Japanese PDF!
Can we start a pool to predict when the first pedestrian will be hit? I’ll put money on Tuesday after opening at 6pm.
Will ZAP be handing out whistles that make a “LOOOOT LOOOOT” sound?
Well, it already happened, sort of. More like the first ped to run into a train.
[...] Sound Transit Ramps Up Safety Campaign by John Jensen We’ve caught wind from the Slog that Sound Transit has released a PSA warning folks to be cautious around light rail. It’s a surprisingly creepy ad, which must be the point. Quite a different tone than Zap Gridlock! [...]
