Triplett wants the 4.5 cents to be specifically dedicated to RapidRide, rather than dumped into the amorphous Metro general fund. That will not cover the entire cost of this system, but it will allow taxpayers to “see it, touch it, and see [their property tax dollars] sustaining something”.

Funny, RapidRide is a sacred cow because people need to see something, even if it's just a Wiener Mobile, from the sales tax increase they voted for with Transit Now. So the answer is to divert money from a ferry tax that wasn't voted on and I'll wager most people don't even know exists. It's a fascinating shell game, isn't it!

As discussed in the previous post of this series, if you cut RapidRide you lose tons of federal matching funds.

It's more frequent buses, not just speed improvements.

How much would delaying/cutting "Rapid Ride" save? I don't see how this system, which cuts a few minutes off a bus trip at a seemingly high cost, can bring in enough extra revenue to justify itself.

That big-brother fingerprint system should be cut just on privacy grounds.
