Good op-ed in today’s Seattle P-I:

Decades of auto-oriented development has led to neighborhoods farther away from jobs, schools, shopping, health care and other needs in our daily lives. The traffic that results from this development is Washington’s largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions. Transportation is the fastest growing source of carbon pollution in the U.S.

The Washington Legislature is considering a bill, Local Solutions to Global Warming (SHB2797, SSB6580), which sets in motion important first steps to help local governments reduce their climate impact through land use and transportation planning. The bill supports those municipalities that are taking early action to reduce global warming pollution, such as Seattle and King County, as we lay the groundwork for the future.
