Today is the last day of normal Metro bus service until January 2nd.
Community transit will have no service on Christmas and New Year’s Day, and reduced service Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Sound Transit will operate similarly on those days, though Christmas and New Year’s will be a Sunday schedule. Unfortunately Pierce Transit’s website only shows holidays through February of 2012, but it appears there will be reduced service on Christmas Eve, Christmas, possibly Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Anyone know whether One Bus Away will accurately reflect these schedules, or is it “beware of ‘scheduled arrival’ season” again?
I don’t know. It works badly with Snow schedules too.
Also for those lucky dogs such as I going to the Seahawks Sunday, remember the game is at 5:20pm for Sunday Night Football and Sounder has adjusted its schedule accordingly:

I was curious about why Sounder North was cancelled on Monday. Were there more mudslides today?
But I heard a radio report in which Gus Melonas sez that the normal 48hr passenger train moratorium is extended indefinitely because `engineers’ are concerned that there will be more mudslides. That statement raises yet more questions. Was he talking about locomotive engineers or geotechnical engineers?

For WSDoT ferry riders, note that the Winter Schedule commences on Sunday, December 30. The holiday schedules vary by line, so check them out individually.
King County water taxis will be closed Christmas and New Year’s Day, but on regular schedule Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
The Kitsap Transit webpage only lists holidays for 2013. There will be no service New Year’s Day, and no service Christmas of 2013.
So, all this holiday stuff has got me thinking – suppose Pierce Transit stages a dramatic 7-day furlough period in which all service is completely suspended.
Maybe a complete abolition of service for one full work week is what it will take for average voters to realize the impact of the service they choose to fund so skeletally.
I think it’s time for PT to give up on stunts and fear mongering and start looking for really efficiencies. The last attempt at crying wolf didn’t work so well.
Are there some efficiencies you might suggest for PT?
For one I’d take a hard look at frequent service out to the Roy Y. Unfortunately it seems PT is so wrapped around the axle that it can’t be fixed.

What attempt at crying wolf? You mean the last vote, an attempt to raise funds to forestall its big cuts?
Amen! I’m all for not suspending transit service, but Pierce Transit people really don’t get it.
It tells me that they really care more about saving 3 cents per 10 dollars then helping the less fortunate than themselves get around.
Just wait until we see $6 gas, then maybe some of the transit damage will be mended. Or maybe car makers will come up with 200 mpg cars that start at *only* $29,999. Just like the national rifle association says that all gun problems can be fixed with more guns, people say that all problems “can be solved with more highways.”
Maybe if all the people in Pierce County who depend on transit decided to jump ship and move to King County, they would start noticing.
Weekday reduced hours are a bad idea. A whole lot of people have to still work after Solstice and having no express buses will be an inconvenience.
