Brenda’s going to take a break for a few weeks or so right?
Until eary next year at least, as the dismantle it and truck it back to capitol hill.
they need to do the following:
1. Disassembly (in progress)
2. Transport uphill (in progress)
3. inspect for damage/wear
4. clear the construction site for reassembly
5. reassemble the TBM
6. test to make sure the TBM is working to spec
7. start diggin.
Parts of Brenda will be transported by track back through the tunnel to CHS.
Do we know if there were any issues? Did Brenda make it under I-5 without any settling problems? Was she ahead of schedule or right on time?
If I remember correctly, ST said that the monitoring of I-5 turning and shortly after the passage of Brenda was looking fine. The original target was (mid?) November, and the revised one was Dec/’by the end of the year’. The delay was due (at least in part) to the slower than expected progress for Brenda until they converted to the belt conveyor system to remove the muck so they pushed the date back a few months ago.
I think I read this in once of the monthly or perhaps quarterly updates (for the Nov then Dec target) and one of the CEO reports for the I-5 passage.
Hopefully if this is incorrect someone will call me on it. ;)
WSDOT & ST have reported no issues w/passing under I5 (or the rest of the tunnel for that matter)
think the worst thing was the Capitol Hill Blowhole that erupted a month or so ago
Forgive my ignorance, but what will the contractors be doing once the tunnels have been completed? At this pace, it seems as though the tunnels will be completed by the end of next year (2012). Surely laying the tracks and testing them doesn’t take that long. Why the 3+ year delay from completing the tunnels to beginning service (2016)?
they have to build the stations too … can’t even begin Capital Hill until they finish all 4 tunnels, remove the UW TBMs and then dig the trench under broadway
Thanks. That makes sense
What trench? I haven’t heard about that.
The trench would be the underground passage to the station entrance on the west side of Broadway by the north end of Seattle Central CC.
oh yea … the UW station and new connection to the campus has to be built as well … can’t really start on that until the UW station is complete
Actually the Montlake Triangle Project will be constructed in parallel with the station, starting in 2012, and will be completed in 2015, a year before the UW station is open for service.

This should just be posted with every U-Link Update.
A little more than a year for systems installation and testing does seem like a bit much, but I guess they’re the experts.
Would there be any sort of financial reason they couldn’t open the system earlier? e.g. bond revenue?
