Via Oran, KOMO has posted some video of a 1987 news segment that, in turn, shows some transportation-related video from the 1920s through 1960s.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

  1. nice find

are there any other old seattle transport videos similar floating around online? anything on the benson streetcar in 1982 or downtown tunnel in 1990? or 1960s/70s rapid transit plans?

    1. I came across videos of the Benson streetcar and pre-hybrid DSTT on YouTube. Shouldn’t be too hard to find those. Anything older than that is pretty rare online. You might be able to find them in the city archives.

I work at SDOT and have access to the Virtual Vault which stores lots of historical engineering plans and maps. I have part of the plans for the “Downtown Seattle Transit Project” (the bus tunnel), Waterfront Streetcar, and even for the Central Link SODO segment.

Afiler on flickr has a set on Seattle transit and planning documents.

I scanned a Metro bus map from June 1997 to a PDF at http://oran.hoshiru.net/transit/MetroMapJune1997.pdf

  2. Oran,
Have you found an electronic copy of the “Scenic Drive” brochures? I seem to recall seeing the brochure when I was young. I believe there were four scenic drives in Seattle. I believe one of the signs can still be seen northbound on the viaduct (save that sign).

The sign had a trident with the words “Scenic Drive” and the number of the drive.

  3. Kaleci,

I am not aware of the brochures but I think I’ve seen something related to scenic drives before in the old roll files. I’ll take a look when I get back to work.
