I don’t normally do endorsements, but I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with — and volunteering for — a really solid candidate in this year’s election.  Vince DeMiero is running to replace the retiring Al O’Brien in the 1st Congressional District, which encompasses the area north of the city, including Mountlake Terrace, Bothell, Edmonds, and parts of Woodinville.

Vince has a great pro-transit platform.  In the next few years, Link will be making its way through that district and on to points North, and it will be great to have a rail advocate like Vince representing the area down in Olympia.  Here’s a bit from his platform:

I love visiting Portland and recently had the opportunity to take a group of students there for a national journalism convention. From the moment we arrived in the Rose City by train, we quickly navigated the TriMet MAX light rail system and for the four days we were there, none of my students used anything else to get around. Certainly, I’ll do all I can to make sure that the Link Light Rail system and the other Sound Transit initiatives reach our communities as soon as possible.

Clearly we need more guys like Vince in the legislature.  If you live in the area, be sure to vote in the primary this August.  And if you’ve got a few extra bucks lying around, consider throwing them Vince’s way.
