Not until the last one comes through, but I think so.
They have to finished the cross tunnel construction before other work can proceed. They will be able to begin on the US station construction now though.
Do we still need to bore from the Pine Street Stub to Capitol Hill Station? I know CHS to Pine is operation now.
Brenda is digging the last tunnel from CHS to the Pine St Stub Tunnel … once that work is done they can start on the actual Capital Hill Station …
That is an awesome photo.
Thanks! This was just a phone photo — I have a raft of higher-res photos; I’ll post a few this evening.
When I saw this I my five arm hairs stood up. Exciting stuff.
Doesn’t look like there’s any room for a platform. Or will they widen the hole?
The station floor plan flares out behind where the contractors are standing; presumably this is where the platform will go.
looking at the site the other day I started wondering the same thing. It is a center-platform station … which means the tracks will have to bend away from each other like they do at the ends of the stations in the DSTT
Did the number crunching: theoretically, Brenda should be done early/mid next month.
Given that this is a time trial, and not a peleton, Balto wins!
How soon does ground get broken for Brooklyn, Roosevelt, Northgate, and 200th? Is there any chance ST has an unpublicized plan to open additional station(s) in 2016?
don’t think so … they’ve only just begun the work to extend the line North of the UW station …
I’d be curious if there was any possibility of accelerating the finish by 6 or more months?
I believe there’s a 6-9 month contingency cushion built into the schedule. ST is only reporting a year window for the opening date: 2020 or early 2021.
We packed-in 71/72/73X riders are counting the days….
Sorry, I got University Link and North Link confused in my mind. But I’m sure the University Link schedule has the same contingency padding.
S. 200th is supposed to open in 2016.
Demolition for North Link starts in earnest next year. They’ve already started salvage work on the acquired properties. No way they’ll be open in 2016 I’m afraid.
Looks like it’s prarie dogging.
I love the smell of infrastructure in the morning! Smells like . . . victory.
I forget, if it can see it’s shadow that’s 6 more weeks of rain? Or is it the other way around.
None of that groundhog crap applies in Seattle.
It is a rainy, dreary spring, until it ain’t.
STB … please try to arrange a walking tour of one of the UW-CHS tunnels
Yes, I’d be willing to do a lot of things for that rare opportunity. Walking from downtown to UW underground would be amazing. Too bad they couldn’t just build a third “service tunnel” that could be used by cyclists or pedestrians, that would be so fun (also dangerous)
New urban transit: the skateboard tube.
Graffiti tube.
This could be a fundraising opportunity for ST. Not that it would make enough to do anything we really want.
I love how all the workers on the ledge are snapping pictures. :) It’s good to know that we have people working on this project that take pride in it.
I have never met a single Sound Transit employee or contractor who wasn’t proud of the work they’re doing. :)
Me neither. Even the flaggers for the “dirt trucks” were always pleasant and would answer any, and all, of my lame questions.
Time to start laying track!!! Does this mean we’re ahead of schedule? http://f2.washington.edu/cpo/sites/default/files/file/u-link-const-schedule-summary-2009-9-30.pdf

That would be awesome, to do a tour
