SEATTLE TRANSIT BLOG EXCLUSIVE:

Cat reading newspaper, captioned "I should write a real schedule for Central Link"

  1. I would like to commend STB for another year of ferreting out the truth about management at Sound Transit. We need to keep them cats on their toes! Keep up the work of doggedly finding out the truth. Don’t let them duck the issues! Keep badgering them for the information.

I ain’t lion when I offer my gratitude. Or was it April 1, I asked sheepishly?

  2. Pierce Transit are now going to eliminate route 500, 1 and 2. They are also eliminating route 100, and bringing route 60 and 65 back for weekend and evenings only. They are also restoring the 406 and 444.

Sound transit is discontinuing Sounder North due to low ridership, because of sudden episodes of 0 riders after bad weather. They are also reducing peak service of 577 and 578, eliminating the 550, and creating a new route between Tacoma, Vashon Island, Bremerton and Seattle.

Due to budget cuts, Metro is switching the A and B lines to run every two hours in each direction, while running the 187 and 139 every 5 minutes. They also announced that the 197 will run in both directions all day and on weekends.

And because of a grant from the state, Community transit will now move from operating 6 day a week to 8 days a week.

And after inspiration from a few articles on STB, WSDOT and ODOT are going for a reversal of the CRC, and tearing down the existing bridge and using the money for transit. “The money we could get from melting down the metal could operate ferries across the Columbia river for 20 years!” said Tim Eyman.

And Sound Transit is expected to announce their South Link to Portland, North Link to Vancouver BC, East Link to Spokane, and West Link to Japan. No word on Fares, but full distance trips are expected to cost more than twice as much as a Sounder ride to Seattle from Lakewood. They have also hinted at a Puyallup-Yakima express. “We send a bus from Seattle to Puyallup every hour, so what now? Why not send them to Yakima?” Why not indeed. Good day, and you might want to think about taking I-5 instead of Pacific Highway S or Military road tomorrow.

    1. Do you think that the Sounder north not running when there is a mudslide amounts to any significant surplus at the end of the year?

    2. Oh dear, John Bailo will have to decide whether to move to Bremerton or Yakima. Yakima has the agriculture, but Bremerton will have that splendid view from the transit bridge.

  3. I wonder if putting 216 on the deletion list was an April fools’ joke. It is out of the bottom 25%, despite losing afternoon service to a freeway station.

  4. Ron Tober, former ST Deputy CEO, who left in 2010 came from CATS! …in North Carolina. He lead CATS as it opened Lynx. Oddly enough, it’s shown as one of the better performing newly constructed light rail lines since it revitalized a depressed and decayed corridor.
