RapidRide M has broke ground! The route will replace the 204 and carry an estimated 120 riders per day. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2033.
Oh my gyaw I can’t wait to use this route very few times! I did hear that it’s going to run every hour and use new RapidRide DART vehicles (which have never been used). I’m so excited for RapidRide to finally arrive in Mercer Island now that the light rail has arrived… Oh my gosh can this day get any better!? I’m so excited that those 7 years of construction will be worth it!
you know if they made the 204 not be hourly I would actually use it. MI may be a lost cause but we can at least try.
Yeah, 60 minute frequencies so no wonder the line will carry an average of 120 passengers per weekday. I also heard they’re going to be doing simulated service on the M Line for 5 years to test the safety of the RapidRide DART buses. It’s scheduled to open in 2040 or later. The workers will also pause for two years since they said that they forecast “adverse laziness” during the process to avoid any delays.
And it will include a world’s first bus only bridge floating bridge from South Mercer Island to Renton?
Of course! The bridge will cost billions to construct but Metro doesn’t really care, they just want that work done!
And only Mercer Island residents are allowed to use it!
The bridge has four lanes. Two for Mercer Islanders; two for everybody else.
In a stunning move that they say will promote equitable access to nature, Sound Transit has decided to shift 90% of ST3 and ST4 funding to the Trailhead Direct program, planning a new 50-mile automated rail line between Redmond and Snoqualmie Pass! The line will replace the western segment of the Palouse trail, and will feature 27 stations with names like “Central Rockdale Ghost Town” and “Snoqualmie Tunnel Western Access Station”. TOD projects are planned at multiple campsites, and estimated ridership is as high as 5,000 per day.
New fare gates are being announced for the DSTT! The new fare gates will allow you to scan your ticket or ORCA card and hop on board. The new fare gates will be guarded by two robots that will say “Welcome to X station” and “Thank you for paying, enjoy the ride” and pat you on the head. If you show an invalid ticket or scan an ORCA card without money they will say “sorry, better luck next time”. If you somehow bypass the fare gates the robots will chase you all over the station and if they catch you they will throw you out of the station, if they don’t catch you and you are able to get onto the train they will smash the windows and blow up the train or run after the train and blow it up so they can remove you and throw you out of the station. This project will cost 5 billion and expects to reduce the number of fare evaders by 100 percent and create an additional -60B in revenue and reduce the number of homeless by 53 percent|
Motorcycle travelers rejoice!
Washington State Ferries is encouraging walk-on passengers to bring a motorcycle with them, through an immediate discount.
Walk-on riders headed to Bainbridge now get a $2.30 discount, from the $11.05 standard walk-on fare to $8.75 for taking up a place in the car line and showing the attendant that your vehicle is a genuine motorcycle.
Bicycles will continue to be discouraged, by tacking on an extra $1 to the walk-on-without-a-motorcycle fare.
Similar incentive-to-bring-a-motorcycle-with-you fares apply on other routes, varying by route.
The Sound Transit Board announces a rearrangement of ST3 plans and timelines! DDST2 has now been postponed to ST4 and the saved money will now be given the Ballard Link and a study on how to elevate the 1 Line on MLK. WSL will now be converted into a gondola line providing riders stunning views of Duwamish River while adding a branch to Costco Wholesale and Boeing Field. Boeing Access Infill will now be moved to provide a direct connection to Sounder. Saved money from the WSL will now be used to elevate the 2 line at Spring Blvd and to build a new infill on the 2 at 140th Ave providing riders access to commercial centers such as Evergreen Village. If both the MLK and Spring Blvd elevations are complete ST promises complete automations bring 2 minute headways to the entrie system.
Don’t forget about the installation of down escalators at every station with an up escalator! Lol
Don’t forget about the ridiculous idea of putting bathrooms at big stations!
Plans have been released to fix Route 8: https://bsky.app/profile/fixthel8.bsky.social/post/3mih5d7wokk2y
Cute. I like the image for speeding up the bus by avoiding traffic on Denny.
Fremont gets a rapid ride stop april fool
No, Fremont gets a high-speed rail station named “The Center of the Universe”. Fremont Avenue is under construction for it right now.
This foolish roundup was Nathan’s suggestion, and I think it went well and led to some impressive comments. (And I’m writing this on April 3 so you know it’s true.) So I suggest repeating this concept in future years.
