… will remain transit-only until viaduct replacement is complete. That’s what the City has told me. Here’s an old-school photo of a Metro Bus going down 3rd Ave.

  1. Nice scoop, Andrew. You’d think that with the tunnel re-opening this fall, they could re-open 3rd Ave. But I guess it’s a good thing — it means they’re moving forward with an urban mobility plan.

  2. I agree keep it transit only! It is better for the mobility anyways, people are adapted to it, or if not they have some fat wallets. By the way I think I see that bus still in use occasionally.

  3. last week after a Mariner’s day game, traffic was horrible on First, pretty bad on Second and Fourth, and the buses on Third were moving right on time! Yes, many of those buses would be running on time in the tunnel, but the single-digit QA and CD buses are sure better off since third was made transit only.

  4. Its going to be hard to move people around with out the viaduct, and with 3rd ave closed, it seems apparent which direction they are going with regards to moving people through there.

  5. I can’t believe anyone is surprised that 3rd avenue is remaining as-is, especially since not all the bus traffic will be going back into the tunnel.

  6. I think they will be adding other routes to 3rd after the bus tunnel opens. We’ll see if it happens, but I had heard at some point that the 358 inbound was going to switch from 5th to 3rd this fall. If it does, I bet that it’s not the only route to do so.

And Andrew, do you have a link to the actual content of what’s in RTID or where to find it–maybe I missed it in one of your postings, but it seems most of your links go to articles. I’ve heard there’s something about Aurora in there, but want to find out more.

    I enjoy your site!
