Thanks for the video. Seemed like a very tame meeting to me. I don’t think anybody said that tall buildings, and also light rail, would bring in undesirables- unlike commenters in some other parts of the region.
Speaking of which, open house in Bellevue last night was perfectly peaceable. Not one comment that given Route 17 stop across from Westlake, Surrey Downs would be menaced by influx of people from Ballard.
Question for grade-separation advocates: given experience between Rainier Beach and Tukwila International, what guarantees can you give about train noise on an elevated structure?
But Roosevelt group doesn’t look like well-financed implacability. Having seen what was referred to as “blighted” property, I thought there were already city ordinances against letting any private property get into that condition.
Looking at recent examples of new development of a variety of heights, a lot of it looks pretty unimaginative- as if architect’s orders are to enclose space fast to be sold faster.
Vancouver BC and Portland both seem to have buildings that are a lot more pleasant to look at than most development here. There’s an interesting one in Portland with several wind turbines on top. I think it’s called “12 West”.
With a group like the one shown, I think some better design would remove a lot of opposition.

As someone who has extensively studied renewable energy, I can tell you that the turbines on that building in Portland are purely a vanity statement. I’d be surprised if they’re even connected to anything.
Finally watched the video. Didn’t look like a bunch of old, racist, NIMBYs, like the “progressives” here wrote earlier. Hmm.
