There is this recently televised six-part BBC Series called “The Tube” about the London underground, a 4 million rides per day operation. Part 4 about “Upgrading the Tube” is especially interesting (all episodes on the yt channel). A single oversensitive door delays thousands of passengers and leads to temporary station closures – now that’s a high-frequency operation. They’re extending a station to handle 200,000 passengers per day. They already had automatic train operation in the sixties. etc.
