Today at Bellevue City Hall, the Governor did a press conference with Sims and others about proposed tolls on 520. The short of it: we’re getting them, and the state should kick in half, about $2 billion, for the replacement. Here’s a short PI blurb, and here’s the release from the Governor’s office. No information on the price of the tolls.

As long as the pontoons are wide enough to accomodate future rail lines, I’m happy.

  1. The new, cheaper design Gregoire will propose (according to Mike Lindblom) won’t easily accomodate future light rail, unfortunately.

    At the press conference itself, Gregoire was vague on the subject

  3. The DJC quotes the tolls at “as high as $10.29 for a roundtrip.” If they actually pulled that off I would be jumping for joy, however at that point they would be forced to toll I-90, or it would be traffic hell down there.

    Seriously, tolls make sense! Everyone complains about transit getting farebox help from the government, but they don’t pay every time they get on the interstate (or even a road for that matter!)
