1. does our state DOT pay for buses?

   1. Only for rural intercity routes

      They also administer some state and federal grant programs

   2. Sometimes, yes. There are a couple of actual intercity bus routes, and they provide small grants to transit agencies.

2. This just in: WA State Highway Dept. builds highways.

   1. But it hasn’t been the highway department for 40 years. :)

      1. Sorry, Ben I consider WSDOT now the Washington Dept of Highways once again, since they reorganized the passenger rail program to virtually nothing.

4. Most of what the state pays in rural areas is actually federal funding that they have responsibility for administering.
