Last summer we held our first fundraising drive, and I honestly had no idea what to expect.  But many of you stepped up, and thanks to your support we were able to hire our first reporter.  In the last year, I think Zach and the rest of the volunteer staff have done a fantastic job delivering coverage and analysis that you can only get here at STB.  We’ve had live coverage at most major transit events, regular briefings with agency staff, and detailed reports on agencies and initiatives.   We’ve also filed public records requests and interviewed regional leaders.

It’s working: our readership is up 50% over a year ago.

We think there’s plenty more to do. This year we’re investing more resources in reporting so we can be sure to provide end-to-end coverage and analysis of this momentous time for Puget Sound transit.  Whether ST3 wins or loses in the fall, there will be plenty to cover next year and beyond.

Please make a donation in 2016 to help us continue our efforts.  Donors receive a monthly newsletter from yours truly, and we’re adding a special gift this year. For donors who give at least $150 or $12/month by the end of May, we’ll send you a brand-new, unfolded version of Oran’s gorgeous Seattle Transit Map, suitable for framing.

Instead of setting a dollar goal, this year hoping for just 100 new donors to step up.   That’s well under 1% percent of our monthly readership.  I know it’s a fundraising cliche, but it’s true: every donation matters.  Whatever you can give – $5, $25, $150.  It all makes a difference.  Donate using the PayPal link below.  If you’d rather give money another way, send me an email (frank at seattletransitblog) and we’ll figure something out.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for your support!  It’s gonna be a great year.

    1. I have a singleton ticket to the Sounders for June 25, for New York City Football Club’s first-ever visit to the Emerald City. It is in the third row of the Hawks’ Nest, right above Sound Wave. Given the near square-ness of the pitch, and your ability to make strange motions at the enemy player getting ready to do a penalty kick or free kick (1:55), it is, IMHO, the best seat in the house.

I really should just offer it up to the highest donor for the month of May who wants it.

The beauty of a singleton ticket is that you can enjoy the match instead of listening to strange babblings about live loops, headway, passenger miles per platform mile, Jane Jacobs, subarea equity, and 2041 dollars. And you get to hear Sound Wave up close.

But wait, there’s more. I’ll throw in a day pass on Sounder, on … a new card! The 2016 ORCA.

This staycation package of a daytime can be yours, if you are the next winner on the Donation is Right.

    2. I was sincere about the STB logo not so much, well, you know, RAH RAH GO TRANSIT. Got a nice comment in the Oak Harbor Library about my “Light Rail to Everett” T-shirt, which I wore doing research on an OLF Coupeville history project with a side of Island Transit clippings.

I mention this because imagine if folks were wearing STB logo’d shirts & gear putting the word out….

  1. 100 people is less than 1% of your monthly readership? Wow, I had no idea 10,000+ people read the blog! It’s great that your hard work is appreciated.

  3. You get to admire the quality of the staff here when you compare certain other Internet forums that have a much less controlled bit of spammers and insult spewers.

Thank you so much for your efforts.

    1. Ya that’s one thing that has amazed me about this blog. I have to say, if they are manually filtering out the spam, that’s a lot of work that deserves donations despite all the effort going into writing content. Very impressive.

      1. Some of it must be manual. Once or twice I’ve run into comments from some guy selling almost genuine drugs from India at prices that are almost cheap and the like, and they seem to get cleaned off pretty quickly.

  4. As an existing subscriber, I continue to be happy with STB’s quality reporting. Keep it up, and thanks!

  5. Thanks for the great content. STB is a daily stop for me and well worth supporting.

I’ve tried multiple times to login and donate, but PayPal keeps giving me an error. Perhaps I’d have better luck just sending money directly. What is the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account?

    Thanks
